However, the official EA store no longer lists the Digital Deluxe Upgrade, instead redirecting its listing on their store towards the F2P base game. * At the time of writing, Steam and Epic Games Store list the base game as free but still sells the Digital Deluxe Upgrade for the base game for £8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99. We'll go into detail about what each type offers further down the page, but for now, here are the raw costs in all their horrifying glory: There are four levels of DLC available for The Sims 4: expansion packs, game packs, stuff packs, and kits. It gives you that tension that something is coming. Personally, it felt like I was playing Doom or Quake again. The music felt fitting, and it sounds perfect. It’s difficult to react to the soundtrack, but I do have to admit that it drew me in. The music is obviously inspired from Quake, similar to works from Nine Inch Nails. Because of so much gore and blood, it can get quite distracting if you are mowing down a lot of enemies. I guess this is one of my minor complaints. At some point, you can think this is a gory version of Splatoon. And some of the blood might be even dripping from the ceiling. And after showering your enemies with bullets, expect the walls to be painted red. So much blood in front of you that you might not see what’s in front of you. It can be overwhelming too, especially if you use the machine gun. And each kill can splatter all around the area. But with some programming magic, they only display in a pixelated version. Also, the enemies and objects are actually rendered in 3D. That tells you that this is not a bitmap image like the classic games. You’ll notice the gun you are holding is lit up by the environment as I mentioned before. It gives this feeling that everything is rasterized like the classic games. So, pretty much the same idea, just given a different look.Īnimation is not perfect either, which is intentional. So, in Doom you are dealing with a portal to hell, while this game is a portal to another world. The only thing missing is a portal to hell. With zombies and demon-like creatures and such. Review: Prodeus by Bounding Box SoftwareĮnemies feel like they come from Doom. Because of this, Prodeus has this blend between Doom and Quake. Doom has flat enemies and objects while Quake uses 3D models for everything. From what I understand these are actually rendered in 3D and it’s processed to look flat. I find it interesting that they even tried replicating the look of flat objects and enemies. So, they were able to achieve the look and feel of the classic games without looking like a pixelated world of Minecraft. The look of the game has this feel of familiarity but at the same time, you know it’s fresh and new. The polygons of the map are as low as possible but enough to make it work. The glass looks transparent, but not perfect. The guns you hold reflect the lighting of the environment. There’s a ton of environment lighting effects that look incredible. I know some new games are doing this too, like the System Shock remake. But even though it looks like an old game, it still does have a ton of effects reminding you that this is nothing like the old games of yesteryears. So, you could say that it feels like Quake, but without the 3D video card smoothing effects and the 3D enemy models. So, the graphics look like Doom but more detailed. All the pixelated look, reminding you of its inspiration which namely is Doom, Quake and other similar games. It feels like it brought me back in time. They generally highlight the look and feel of the game. The question is, is the story really that important for you to enjoy the game?Įven in their official site, the story is not even mentioned. It reminds me a bit of Doom 3 on how it tells the story. It’s told slowly by finding computers that tell you what happened. But there is a story here that you will uncover though. You should be in action in a few minutes. It practically destroys your ship but suddenly you are teleported to an unknown planet. It tells you that you are inside your ship, and it’s been attacked by an unknown force. Interestingly, the tutorial does tell you a bit before you get into the action. Good thing, the tutorial is pretty quick. But just like modern games, you still have to go through a tutorial. Remember the old days when you start the game, you are immediately put into action, it’s pretty close to that. They have done a lot of incredible AAA stuff before, like Singularity (2010), Bioshock Infinite (2013), Wolfenstein (2009), Call of Duty Black Ops (2010) and Doom (2016). They didn’t reach their top-level goals, but it was more than enough to make the game a reality.īounding Box Software is a two-man team of Mike Voeller and Jason Mojica. It was obvious that with the funds that they got, they showed what they are capable of. Bounding Box was able to fulfill most of its goals. Notably, Prodeus went through KickStarter to get its funding. Especially in level design and the look and feel of the game. This is a game that really took to the roots of classic shooter games like Doom (1993) and Quake(1996). Tons of new games today are trying to replicate the look and feel of classic games while incorporating new designs and gameplay. Everyone knows that nostalgia is a best seller. We check out Prodeus, the Doom inspired game from Bounding Box Software Inc. Here’s another additive made by Liqui Moly that’s well worth considering: Liqui Moly Cera Tec Friction Modifier. Also, some users don't like that the product paints the oil into black and thickens the oil. It seems that the liquid doesn't show the ultimate results on all vehicles. Even if you don't notice the improvement right away, the product will significantly prolong the lifespan of your car's engine and protect it in the long term.Īlthough some users noticed a huge improvement in the car engine performance and noise, others didn't find this product that beneficial. A drop or two of this liquid goes a long way. The product is available in a bottle of 300 milliliters, which means it's long-lasting and beneficial for the budget. Besides being useful for automotive purposes, this oil additive is also suitable for machinery and tools. When used regularly, the product helps the engine accelerate better and run smoother, expanding its lifespan. This product is a motor oil additive that proves to be rather efficient in reducing engine friction and overall noise. When you choose Liqui Moly Anti-Friction Oil Treatment, you’re getting great value for the money you spend. If you’re thinking about enhancing your engine oil’s performance with an additive, we’ve compiled a list of the best oil additives right here. And they’re incredibly easy to add right into the oil you’re already using. Meant to protect everything from seals and gaskets while also flushing out sludge and cleaning different engine components, an oil additive can be a serious workhorse for your vehicle. Oil additives, which are also called engine oil additives, can improve engine performance and even help it last for longer. If you’re counting on your oil to keep your engine and all of its parts running smoothly, you might want to check in with it and see if an oil additive could help. However, what you might not think about as regularly as your oil changes is what, exactly, your oil is doing under the hood. Without them, your car’s innermost components and systems can face serious problems - and you could wind up with costly repairs you really don’t want to pay for. You already know how critically important regular oil changes are for your car. Ookla uses three main measures of latency, each of which helps you understand a specific set of issues. Whether AR and VR or self-driving vehicles, this will require dramatic improvements in latency. The future of the internet is bidirectional where download and upload communication are necessarily performed simultaneously. Latency will matter even more in the very near future Using regression, we show that an additional increase of the startup delay by 1 second increases the abandonment rate by 5.8%.” Of course, network operators don’t control the full experience here, and things like CDN location can really affect an end user’s experience, but consumers don’t have visibility into that and the more you can optimize the portions you do control, the less negative feedback you’ll receive. In fact, one study from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Akamai concluded “…an increase in the startup delay beyond 2 seconds causes viewers to abandon the video. Think back to the Amazon example above: You may not be directly losing money when your customers see a slow page load due to high latency, but you are providing a poor network experience that will result in increased customer service costs and churn. Above the 300 ms barrier, it’s difficult to maintain a coherent conversation. This is a physiological threshold - below 300 ms - where the human brain can manage the delay and not speak over other parties. In addition to web browsing, video and voice calling needs a latency below 300 ms to provide an acceptable experience. It can take 7x to load a full webpage when latency is high, as seen in the example below. On a gigabit connection, 500 ms of additional latency dramatically affects the page load time. As a result, the typical request on the internet requires two to five round trip communications between various entities over different latency sensitive protocols (DNS, TCP, TLS, and QUIC/H3). While best known for gaming, video conferencing, and streaming video, the underlying internet protocols powering modern experiences rely on bidirectional communication to negotiate encryption keys, determine routing paths, and request resources. Latency matters for every online experience. Latency is the bidirectional roundtrip time between two endpoints. While speed has always been the focus for optimization, since the end user delay was caused by the delay of downloading data assets, now that bandwidth has increased for many people around the globe, the bottleneck for these folks is the time delay between two systems communicating. Why latency mattersĪ 2009 study detailed that every 100 ms of additional latency on, cost the company 1% of revenue. Read on to learn why latency matters to quality of experience, why you need to consider latency now, and how Ookla® can help you measure what matters most.īandwidth is now an economics problem, latency is the new opportunity horizon. While latency has always affected connectivity, latency and responsiveness metrics have become increasingly critical to network operators focused on delivering a superior connected experience and supporting evolving consumer use cases. However, the internet and how we use it is changing bandwidth is no longer all that matters for networks operators to deliver on the possibilities that a connected world can offer. Internet service providers and mobile operators have spent decades optimizing their networks to provide the best speeds possible so consumers can achieve seamless connected experiences. Some can hold 24 guns, which others can only hold eight guns. Different units have different capacities. So let me ask: how many guns do you own, or how many rifles do you plan on owning? Multani Mitti is known for its calming and cooling effects on your skin, which can be useful when you have a sunburn. It brightens your skin without making your skin irritated or itching. It is a great alternative to chemical exfoliators, as it gently removes dirt, dead skin cells, and other debris from your face. But they may cause irritation on sensitive skin since it is made of harsh chemicals. If you are looking for a skin exfoliator, there are plenty of options out there in the market. Multani Mitti is well-known for removing excess oil and has anti-inflammatory properties, thus saving you from pimples or acne. When the pores get blocked, bacteria (can multiply and grow) and dead skin cells get locked resulting in bumps that we call pimples. New cells are formed and the dead cells are removed from our skin constantly. Our skin has small holes called pores and sometimes that can be blocked by excess oil. It also helps in toning and cleansing the skin. Multani Mitti helps in removing impurities from the skin and reduces the number of open pores. The enlarged pores make your skin more vulnerable to dirt, pollution, and impurities. If you have oily skin, then you are at a high risk of having enlarged pores. Open pores are caused by the presence of excess oil on the skin. Multani Mitti helps in skin tightening, and thus the supply of oxygen around the skin increases. This is due to the poor supply of oxygen around the eyes. Removes Dark Circlesīecause of sickness, tiredness, or lack of enough sleep, dark circles may appear on the skin around the eyes. Query routing means taking (part of) the query and letting the worker node that stores the relevant shards handle the query, which is possible when the query filters and joins by the distribution column. Since the data pertaining to a customer is stored on a singular worker node, the MERGE command uses query routing. order_id WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN - New entry, record it in target INSERT ( customer_id, last_order_id, order_center, order_count, last_order ) VALUES ( customer_id, s. order_center = 'New York' THEN - Remove the customer in target DELETE WHEN MATCHED THEN - Existing customer, update the order count UPDATE SET order_count = t. MERGE INTO customers t USING orders s ON ( t. From theory to practice: Diving into use case(s) Let's start by looking at a simple query-routing scenario Note: Each output row of the join can activate at most one when-clause. The corresponding action is then applied, and processing continues for the next row.WHEN clauses are evaluated in the exact specified order until one of them is activated. The first clause that evaluates to true is the one (and the only one) that gets executed. The status of MATCHED or NOT MATCHED is assigned to each row just once, after which the WHEN clauses are evaluated in the order they are written. How MERGE works in Postgres (as of Postgres 15) Figure 1: MERGE command performs a left outer join between the source-table and target-table. Batch operations: When performing bulk operations that may involve both insertions and updates, using MERGE can be more efficient than issuing separate insert and update commands, as it minimizes the number of total commands sent and processed.Real-time data update: If you're dealing with real-time data that's constantly being updated, such as stock prices or sensor readings, you can use MERGE to ensure that the most recent data is always available, without the need to distinguish between new and existing data.Logging: In cases where you're logging events to a table and you want to count occurrences of events, and an event occurs that's already in the table, you increment a counter otherwise, you insert a new row.Data deduplication: If you're handling data that might contain duplicates, and a duplicate row is detected, you can simply update the existing record.MERGE ensures that the database remains consistent with the external data source. Data synchronization: If you're periodically syncing data from an external system and want to update existing records while creating new ones as necessary.Real-world applications of the Postgres MERGE SQL operation You are eager to unlock the full potential of MERGE SQL.From theory to practice: Diving into use case(s).How MERGE works in Postgres (as of Postgres 15).Real-world applications of the Postgres MERGE SQL operation. It will delve into some of the practical use-cases, and subsequently elaborate on the different strategies employed by Citus for handling MERGE in a distributed environment. In this blog post, you will learn a high-level overview of the functioning of Postgres MERGE. MERGE provides a single SQL statement that can conditionally INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE rows, a task that would otherwise require multiple procedural language statements, using INSERT with ON CONFLICT clause etc. If it's not for some reason to do with SQL's deeper architecture, I'd like to understand why.Postgres community released a new feature, in Postgres 15.0, that performs actions to modify rows in the target table, using the data from a source. This feels like a more correct & less wasteful way to do it. In the past I've done operations like this by doing two SELECTS, one of which is against the item_templates table, the other against the unique_items table, and taken their UNION. Or if this is something you can't do conceptually - have each row choose its own join - I'd love to get a link to a deeper explanation. If there's a quick fix for the syntax, I'd love to hear it. This is the sort of thing I've been trying, without success: SELECT item_table, item_id, * So when I find a record of an item in the item_instances table, I want to look up more information about it, and I need to pull that info from the correct table. They are now stored in the unique_items table. Say I've got a table of item_instances in my game, of all the items in the game world, and some of the items are cookie-cutter copies of generic items from the item_templates table, and other items started off as templates, and then acquired unique properties as players used them. I'm attempting to use a CASE expression to select which table each row should be joined with. Some rooms and suites offer a terrace and views over Paris and Haussmanian facades. Where To Stay In Paris Luxury – Brach Parisīrach Paris is set in the 16th arr. We couldn’t resist but to create our own typical romantic Paris shot. Possibly our favourite photo/memory was on our way home one evening when we looked back and caught a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower from a distance. Whilst wondering the streets of Paris, it’s hard not to capture the beauty of the lightly lit avenues. This is certainly one of the most chilled out Eiffel Tower photo spots in Paris. Just be careful not to get scammed though! There are even locals walking around selling champagne and chocolates incase you forgot yours. Grab some food, grab some friends and take in the true ambience of the surrounding area from Champ De Mars!Ĭome evening times the grass is usually packed out with locals and tourists enjoying the last bit of sun. What better way to end your Paris trip than by watching the sun set over the Eiffel Tower with a bottle of wine or a picnic. Standing underneath it is a pretty cool photo though, and it’s not a very hard location to find! 6. This will save time queueing and allows you to head to the summit by elevator and marvel at the spectacular views of Paris from above. However if you do wish to go up the Eiffel tower, the best way is to book the Eiffel Tower Direct Access Tour to Summit by Elevator. It truly puts the iconic towers height into perspective and makes you realise just how small you are in comparison! You can’t get much closer that this without standing on top of the Eiffel Tower itself. We were heading over from the Trocadéro side and our friend happened to capture this candid, which we later fell in love with!Īlthough there are roads, there were very few vehicles so it’s pretty much a free reign for photographers. It links the Eiffel Tower on the Left Bank, to the district of Trocadéro on the Right Bank. Pont d’Iéna is a bridge spanning the River Seine in Paris. Try and get there before sunset, because that’s when the crowds start emerging and this spot was actually very difficult to avoid people getting in the shot. Like a scene from a movie, we headed over to Rue De L’universite in the late afternoon and if you google the street name, this spot is easy enough to find. This time from a quirky Paris backstreet. Eiffel Tower From Rue De L’universitéĪnother angle of the most famous tower in the world, and one of the most Instagrammable Eiffel Tower photo spots. You can just focus yourself in the foreground and let the backdrop talk for itself. Plus, if there are a few people in the way, you don’t have to worry so much about the background. Here it’s a lot easier to dodge the crowds. Maybe even grab some breakfast, or bring a pack up, and fuel yourself up for the day while overlooking the centre piece of Paris. Just up the steps and across the marble floor are plenty of places to take a seat and admire the view. Eiffel Tower From Place Du TrocaderoĪfter the sun has slightly risen you can head back from the steps, to the platform at Place du Trocadero. It’s an ideal place to start your day at sunrise, even if you just sit back and enjoy it all without your camera.įor those looking to capture a piece of the magic though, make sure to get there early as it is a popular location! 2. From here you will walk out to the most incredible view! To reach this point we recommend catching the metro to Trocadero station, which drops you just metres away from the viewing platform. There are many angles when it comes to the iconic iron tower, our favourite being sunrise at the Trocadero steps. So of course the Eiffel Tower tops the photography list when visiting Paris, but where to get the shot from? To achieve broad spectrum sun protection, a chemical-only sunscreen must contain avobenzone and at least one other chemical UV filter. Avobenzone is the only chemical UV filter that is able to absorb and protect skin against UVA rays that has been approved for use in the US. The majority of chemical filters approved by the FDA are only capable of absorbing and protecting against UVB rays. Each chemical filter absorbs a different range of wavelengths across the UV spectrum). The case for, and controversy of chemical filtersĬhemical UV filters, or organic filters, are carbon-based compounds that protect skin from UV damage by absorbing UV photons, preventing them from being absorbed by skin cells. 13 This slow pace has frustrated dermatologists and sunscreen innovators in the US as newer, sometimes more protective UV filters have gained approval and wide usage in other countries. The FDA’s approval of UV filters lags significantly behind other countries, and new UV filters have not been added to the FDA’s final OTC monograph since 1999. 13 This means that the FDA requires that specific tests be performed on sunscreens and sunscreens’ active ingredients-UV filters-that verify their safety, efficacy, and stability. In the US, sunscreens are considered over-the-counter (OTC) drug products, and are regulated by the FDA. Long-term damage appears as wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, collagen degradation, texture, and/or skin cancer. Short-term damage can appear as burning, erythema (skin turning red, dark brown, or purple depending on your skin tone), and blistering. By doing so, UV filters reduce the risk of short and long-term UV damage to the skin. UV filters are the active ingredients used in sunscreens that absorb, reflect, or scatter UV rays. After all, the best sunscreen is the one you’re enthusiastic about applying every day. 14 This compilation of expert knowledge and clinical findings provides you a better understanding of the differences, risks and benefits of chemical and mineral UV filters so that you can make the most informed decision for yourself. These questions don’t have simple answers- the FDA is still assessing the benefits and risks of chemical and mineral UV filters. What is the difference between chemical and mineral sunscreens? Is one more effective or safer than the other? Are mineral sunscreens better for the environment? Are chemical sunscreens hormone disruptors? Choosing between types of sunscreens and UV filters, however, can be confusing and overwhelming. It’s important to know the difference between UVA and UVB radiation and how either type impacts aging, skin degradation, and likelihood of skin cancer so that you understand how important it is to invest in sun protection. |
